Stephanie Bland has been selected as the Morgan Hunter March Substitute of the Month in recognition of her dedication and dependability. She quickly stepped into a long-term assignment at KC International Academy and has made a significant impact. Stephanie consistently communicates effectively and brings a positive, team-oriented attitude to every assignment. Thank you, Stephanie, for your hard work and commitment—we truly appreciate you!
Stephanie was born and raised in the “Windy City,” Chicago. She spent her early years in the urban core with her parents before moving to Galesburg, Illinois, during her sophomore year of high school. She went on to build an impressive 44-year career in education, teaching vocal music for grades K–12 in Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. Stephanie later served as the Director of a behavior management charter school in Kansas City, Missouri, and also worked as a school administrator in both public and charter schools across Kansas and Missouri.
In her free time, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, golfing, and connecting with friends. She is also passionate about arranging music and directing choirs. Recently, she has been focusing on making time to rest, relax, and recharge.
Stephanie became a substitute teacher after hearing about the opportunity from another Morgan Hunter substitute. After her first assignment, she quickly realized that her extensive classroom experience and deep understanding of the education system enabled her to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives.
One of Stephanie’s most memorable experiences as a substitute was working with an autistic student, during which she helped the student improve their sight-word vocabulary. Seeing the student’s excitement and sense of accomplishment was incredibly rewarding. Stephanie was able to build a strong connection, and it was clear the student felt safe and supported in her presence.
Her advice to fellow substitute teachers is to come prepared with a “toolkit” of grade-appropriate assignments and activities they feel confident delivering. Being comfortable in front of students is key, especially since lesson plans aren’t always provided. Preparation can make all the difference in having a successful day. Stephanie believes that substitute teachers are a valuable gift of support and play an essential role in collaboration with schools.
Morgan Hunter Education couldn’t be more thrilled to have Stephanie on our substitute teacher team!
