Heather has been a substitute teacher with Morgan Hunter Education for six years, spending most of that time in long-term assignments. She rarely takes time off, and when she does, she always notifies us in advance. Heather works extremely hard to ensure she provides the best possible education for her students. We very much appreciate Heather.

Heather is the mother of a 23-year-old daughter who resides in Manhattan. Heather enjoys spending time with family and travels regularly to Southwest Kansas to visit her mother and to Northern Arkansas to spend time with her stepmother.

Eight years ago, she began working as a substitute teacher, initially drawn to the profession because it aligned well with her personal schedule. WhatSub of the Month for February 2026, Heather Meng began as a practical decision soon evolved into a deeply fulfilling career path. Through her work in education, she discovered a genuine passion for teaching—one that continues to grow with each passing year.

Over the years, she has accumulated countless memorable experiences in the classroom, ranging from humorous and unconventional to moments that are uniquely unpredictable. However, the most meaningful experiences occur daily. Witnessing students grasp new concepts and gain confidence in their understanding remains the most rewarding aspect of her role, reinforcing her commitment to education.

When asked to offer guidance for a successful day as a substitute teacher, Heather emphasizes the importance of maintaining an open mind, practicing consistency, and approaching students with kindness. These principles, she believes, create a positive learning environment and allow substitute teachers to make a lasting impact, even within a single school day.

Thank you, Heather, for all you do for the students in the Lawrence School District!
